Some bad news this morning: we’ve heard from our friends in Plain, and Strassenfest has been cancelled due to the rain that is moving into the area.

Cemetery Sing 2019
On Sunday August 25, 2019 we had our annual “cemetery sing” outing. This is a chance for the choir to visit cemeteries where past members are buried, sing some songs and share memories of the departed. We also make a few stops along the way to visit some of the businesses that support the Madison Maennerchor.
This year we visited Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona, Resurrection Cemetery in Madison and Forest Lawn Cemetery in Madison. Below are some photos from the outing, as always please click on the thumbnail to see the full sized image. Also, for more information on our deceased members, please visit our Deceased Members page.

MMC rehearsal canceled 2/7/2019
Our rehearsal on Thursday February 7, 2019 has been canceled due to weather and road conditions. With the rain, sleet and snow that we’ve had over the last two days, plus the forecast of much colder temperatures tonight, it will be dangerous to be out on the roads. So tonight’s rehearsal (and business meeting) has been canceled.
MMC rehearsal canceled 1/31/2019
Our rehearsal on Thursday January 31, 2019 has been canceled due to weather conditions. With the forecast high temperature remaining below zero and with the chance of an inch or so of snow beginning in the evening, it’s probably best if we all stay off the roads.
Madison Half Marathon
The Madison Marathon and Half Marathon was held on Sunday November 11, 2018, and here’s a photo of Tim (#5517) and Joe (#5583) in Tenney Park just past the Mile 11 marker. More importantly, this is just a little over 2 miles from the finish line and the beer tent. It was a pretty cold morning, but at this point the sun had come out and the temperature had nearly gotten up to the freezing point.

Beloit Chorale Concert
The Beloit Chorale performed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison on Saturday July 21st. This is the Chorale’s first season and we were pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor the concert.
This is a recording of one of the songs that the chorale performed. It is “Stars” by Erik Esenvalds.
Olbrich Park Biergarten
On Thursday June 28, we met for our usual summer “rehearsal” at the Olbrich Park Biergarten. We had visited once last summer, and it’s a great location on the shore of Lake Monona. It’s at the south end of the park, near the Walter Street entrance.
We had some beer and some food and sang a few songs, and generally had a great time, as you can see in the photos below. We’ll definitely have to make another visit to the Biergarten soon!
Bucky on Parade
Those of you who live in the Madison area have probably seen or heard of the “Bucky on Parade” public art project. This involves 85 different Bucky Badger statues in the Madison area, each one 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. Every statue is transformed by a local artist into a unique representation of Bucky. Here is a link to the WMTV story.
Tim found the “Gemütlichkeit Bucky” near the Capitol and took this picture. Click on the thumbnail to see the larger image.
For more information on the art project, here is the official Bucky on Parade web site. There are maps on the web site showing the location of all 85 of the Buckies. The project runs from May 7, to September 12, 2018.
Kohl Center January 2018
We were invited to sing the national anthem at the Kohl Center on January 26, before the UW mens hockey game against Penn State. We got to see a lot of the facilities at the Kohl Center. We did a couple of sound checks – it was a new experience for us to sing in such a large hall with microphones.
After we sang the anthem, we had a chance to watch the first period before going up to the Kellner Club to sing during the first intermission. We had a great time and were able to sing a lot of favorite songs. It was a great evening and best of all UW came from behind to defeat Penn State 4-2!
