Oktoberfest at the Edgewater 2016

On Saturday October 1st we sang at the inaugural Oktoberfest celebration at the Edgewater Hotel. The weather was not the best, to say the least, and it didn’t help that the Badger football game was on TV inside the hotel, but a few hardy souls endured the elements to hear us sing. The band that was supposed to play after our performance actually cancelled because of the rain.

All things considered it was a pretty good outing, though of course it would have been better if the Badgers had not lost to Michigan.

Here are a few pictures from out time at the Edgewater. As always click on the thumbnail image to see the larger photo.

Wauktoberfest 2016

We sang at Wauktoberfest at Endres Manufacturing in Waunakee on Sunday September 18th. It was a beautiful day and for once we didn’t have to worry about missing the Packer game because they had the Sunday night game. the schedule had changed a bit from previous years, so we sang later in the day after the dachshund races and the art auction.

Here are some photos from Wauktoberfest. We had a great time as always and are looking forward to next year!

Cemetery Sing 2016 part 2

These photos are from the Edgewater Hotel – this was one of the afternoon stops on the Cemetery Sing on August 21st. We sang at the Boathouse area along the lake shore. Thanks to our friends at the Edgewater for providing these photos!

Cemetery Sing 2016

Sorry for the long delay, but here are some photos from the 2016 Cemetery Sing on August 21. Our first stop was the Great Dane Pub – Eastside. From there we headed out to Forest Hill Cemetery and then Resurrection Cemetery across the street.

Then it was off to lunch at Kavanaugh’s Esquire Club and the stops at Slices and the Edgewater hotel, before returning to Turner Hall.

Below are some photos form the first part of the day. I will post the photos from the Edgewater separately. As always, click on the thumbnail image to see the larger version of the photo.

MKI Oktoberfest

The Friends of the Max Kade Institute are having another Oktoberfest fund-raising event. A couple of us went to the same event last year and had a great time. The funds raised go to the Library of the Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies.

Here is a link to the event page on their web site: http://mkifriends.org/events/

Briefly the event is on Friday November 4 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the University Club on State Street. There will be a German-style buffet, German and Swiss music and of course there will be beer – from Bull Falls Brewery in Wausau.

First Lutheran Church in Middleton

On Sunday September 11, 2016 we took part in the Annual Service at First Lutheran Church in Middleton. The church is no longer used for regular church services, it’s used mostly for weddings in the summer, but every fall there is an annual service. This year it was a special anniversary: the current church building was constructed in 1866 so this is the 150th anniversary! An addition was built in 1884 with the steeple and a new church bell. The church was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1988.

The congregation was founded in 1852, which coincidentally is the same year that the Madison Maennerchor was founded.

It was a beautiful day for the service and it was great to be there and to sing during the service. Below are a few photos; as always click on the thumbnail to see the larger image.
